Diabetes is a complex condition that affects many parts of a person’s body. The good news is that with good support and a plan of action, there is a lot you can do to live a healthy life and prevent potential complications.
Today we are going to learn more about those complications and how to prevent them.
In today’s episode we are joined by two health care professionals who know a thing or two about supporting people with diabetes and helping to prevent the complications that can happen to someone with diabetes. We will also discover more about the Circle of Care that surrounds and supports someone living with diabetes to stay well.

Dr Bryan Betty – is a specialist GP in Porirua and the current president of the Royal College of GPs. He has been a part of and contributed to all levels of the health system in Aotearoa. Last year he was made an Officer of the NZ Order of Merit. He is a strong advocate for equity and access to quality healthcare for everyone, which can be demonstrated through his work advocating for improvements to NZ’s high rates of type 2 diabetes.
Liz Dutton – works at Diabetes New Zealand’s head office in Wellington as Service Development Manager and is a former Clinical Nurse Specialist in Diabetes. Liz has a keen interest in Diabetes Self-Management Education Programmes and is part of the team rolling out these programmes through various Diabetes NZ branches.
