Exploring new treatments for eating disorders

A treatment that has been successfully trialled for schizophrenia patients may be adaptable to use in the treatment of eating disorders. Metacognitive training (MCT) is used to help people develop an awareness of the implausible nature of their delusional beliefs and also works on targeting the thinking errors that contribute to their condition.

Research published in Schizophrenia Bulletin has found that MCT is effective and now Flinders University researcher Ryan Balzan is recruiting for a study to adapt MCT for people with eating disorders.
