Evidence is mounting that people who follow a Mediterranean-style diet, which includes olive oil, grains, legumes, fresh fruit and veges, nuts and fish, are not only taking steps to prevent cardiovascular disease, they have a 41 per cent reduced risk of advanced age-related macular degeneration – the leading cause of blindness in people aged over 65 years old.
