Super Antioxidant

apple-browningWhen you cut into an apple and it starts to turn brown, you’re seeing oxidation at work. If you put the apple into some water with a little lemon juice or vitamin C in it, the apple will stay fresh longer. This is because vitamin C and the acids in lemon juice are antoixdants, substances that inhibits oxidation.

Antioxidants neutralize the free radical activity that researchers in the field of anti-aging now believe causes tissues to oxidize and breakdown causing premature aging and degenerative disease. Because of these findings, anti-aging researchers suggest that getting adequate amounts of antioxidants in the diet is one of the best ways to prevent many forms of chronic and degenerative diseases, including cancer, heart disease, stroke and loss of brain function.

The best way to get these antioxidants is to consume 5-7 generous helpings of fresh fruits and vegetables daily, since antioxidants are abundant in fresh plant foods. However, most people in modern society aren’t able or willing to consume enough fresh fruits and vegetables to get the antioxidants their body requires. Hence, supplementation may be helpful.

Super Antioxidant Super Antioxidant contains a variety of antioxidants and liver protecting herbs that help protect the body against free radical damage and assist in the process of liver detoxification. The herbs and nutrients it contains have the following effects.

Turmeric

Turmeric contains curcumin, a compound with stronger antioxidant properties than vitamin E. Turmeric is also a very potent anti-inflammatory agent. It has a stronger action than hydrocortisone, without the harmful side effects, making it a very good agent for treating the chronic inflammation that accompanies free radical damage to tissues. Turmeric also has an anticoagulant action and a cholesterol-lowering action. These benefits, coupled with its anti-inflammatory action, make it a good herb for reducing the risk of heart attack and stroke.

Milk Thistle Extract

Milk Thistle contains a group of flavolignans known as silymarin, which have been clinically proven to have a protective effect on the liver. German research on silymarin extracts shows these compounds can protect the liver from highly toxic substances such as carbon tetrachloride or death cap mushrooms. The extract aids liver detoxification and has an antioxidant effect that protects the liver during detoxification processes.

Tocotrienols

There are two types of molecules in the vitamin E family, tocopherols and tocotrienols. The tocotrienols are found primarily in palm oil, rice bran oil, palm kernel oil and coconut oil, but most vegetable oils contain little or no tocotrienols. These fat-soluble compounds protect fats in the body from oxidizing.

Lycopene

tomatoLycopene is a carotenoid, a natural fat soluble pigment, found in certain plants and microorganisms. It has antioxidant properties which are designed to protect the organisms from the toxic effects of oxygen and light. Lycopene is responsible for the red color of tomatoes, and is also found in watermelon, papaya, pink grapefruit and pink guava. It has been shown to have anticarcinogenic properties and may have a protective effect against prostate cancer, other cancers and heart disease. Research shows that lycopene in tomatoes can be absorbed more efficiently by the body if processed into juice, sauce, paste and ketchup.

Alpha Lipoic Acid

Alpha lipoic acid is a sulphur compound that is a co-factor in energy producing reactions in the body. It has antioxidant activity and also helps recycle other antioxidants, such as glutathione, a major intracellular antioxidant important for liver detoxification. It is approved in Germany for the treatment of diabetic and alcoholic neuropathies and liver disease. It may have some protective effect against cardiovascular disease, and neurological disorders like Parkinson’s, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and Alzheimer’s, but research at this point is inconclusive.

Rose Hips

Rose hips contain vitamins C and K and are also rich in antioxidant flavonoids. They have been historically used to strengthen blood capillaries. They help heal conditions like easy bruising, nosebleeds and varicose veins.

Suggested Use
